Maltipoo. Plush dog

If you’re allergic to dog fur, you can get a hypoallergenic breed like a Maltipoo. This miniature dog with button-like eyes can easily be mistaken for a plush toy. But it loves its owner sincerely.

The breed was developed in the late 20th century by crossing a Maltese with a Toy Poodle. These adorable apricot-coated puppies quickly won the hearts of many breeders. The Maltipoo became especially popular in America and then in other countries. However, the breed is still not officially recognized, so there are no set breed standards yet.

Not a Guard Dog Maltipoo

If you need a guard dog, you should choose another breed. The Maltipoo can’t distinguish between friendly and unfriendly people, so it joyfully greets everyone who comes into the house. This breed greets both its owners and guests with loud barking.

The dog will happily climb into the lap of anyone nearby and lick their face and ears. Maltipoos love it when their owner sits with them on the couch in the evening and gives them belly rubs.

This breed gets along well with other pets and will never bite a child, even if the child pulls it by the tail across the room. Maltipoos aren’t afraid of noisy crowds; they enjoy attention and being petted by the owner’s guests.

For those with an active lifestyle, a Maltipoo is a great choice. You can take this pet on trips, as it patiently handles car rides and will keep you entertained on the road. However, Maltipoos don’t cope well with being left alone for long periods. If left by itself for too long, it may become lonely, start howling, and even become sick.

This breed is often used in animal therapy. Maltipoos help improve mood and health in people. This form of therapy is commonly used in the U.S., Japan, and England.

Maltipoo Care and Grooming

When you purchase a puppy from a breeder, you will be given a veterinary passport with the first vaccinations. It’s essential to vaccinate your pet annually, and a vet can help you keep track of the vaccination schedule.

Basic care includes bathing, trimming nails, cleaning ears and eyes, and brushing teeth.

The pet should only be bathed once a month, ideally with dog shampoo. After bathing, you should brush its fur with a special brush.

Nails should be trimmed as needed. You’ll hear a distinct sound like ‘click-click-click’ when the dog is running on the floor, which means it’s time for a nail trim.

Maltipoo ears need to be cleaned every 1-2 weeks with a damp cotton pad or cotton swab.

Their teeth should be brushed weekly using a dog toothbrush and toothpaste to remove plaque and prevent tartar buildup.

Some owners treat their Maltipoos like cats by training them to use a litter box and not taking them outside. However, Maltipoos need walks. Veterinarians and breeders insist that a sedentary lifestyle is harmful to this pet. The less active the dog is, the greater the risk of weight gain and associated health problems.

Maltipoos have a hearty appetite. You must monitor their weight carefully. This little dog can eat not only dry food but also table scraps. However, you should avoid feeding them human food, as this can lead to stomach and digestive issues.
